New Pornographers at Battery Park

What better way to celebrate the United States of America than seeing a Canadian indie-pop band? The New Pornographers played a free show this 4th of July at Battery Park in NYC and I was lucky enough to get tickets. Although I’ve been a fan for a long time I’d never made it to one of their shows before (partially because I wouldn’t bother unless Neko was there) but it was well worth the wait. The band rocked out hardcore despite a bit of rain (which meant someone had to hold an umbrella over Blaine Thurier’s laptop). Neko Case’s voice holds up to all the praise its been given. Highlights for me were a lot of songs from the new album like Mutiny, I Promise You, The Spirit of Giving, Challengers and My Rights Versus Yours along with some classics like The Laws Have Changed, Testament To Youth In Verse, The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism, Use It, These Are The Fables, Sing Me Spanish Techno and when they broke into the chorus at the end of The Bleeding Heart Show it might actually have been a perfect moment. Wow apparently highlights for me include most of the setlist, it was a really great show so if you have the chance definitely go seem them on their fall tour.

Yes! "The Bleeding Heart Show" definitely has this strange feel of perfection to it, especially live.

Isn't it "Testament To Youth In Verse"?
