The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches

silverunity:

Back when these guys were still around (or are they still around? They officially broke up but apparently they might do a tour?), I have never seen a more energetic band live than The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches. They're climbing on the ceiling, the keyboardist would be jumping up and down on the keyboard swinging from hanging speakers, and the bassist would stage dive in an empty spot... land straight on his face, and keep rocking out as he had the time of his life.

They've got some incredibly hilarious sarcastic lyrics, rivaling that of Osker
but without all of the angst. If I had to pick a band that they're most similar to, I'd go with Big D and The Kids Table, although ASOB are definitely unique.

MP3: The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches - Go Ska!
Hilarious song making fun of the style of music they play... ska. Brings me
back to the days when ska was big and was the cool thing to listen to.

MP3: The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches - So Lets Go Nowhere!
Besides the fact the band loves exclamation points more than !!!, this song
would be the closest thing this band has to a single. Amazing track.

MP3: The Arrogant Sons Of Bitches - Kill The President
I requested this song live once... They told me don't say the song title out loud,
we'll all get hunted down. Has nothing to do with presidents.

Some British NWA Humour

Aquarian Beauty:

Help The Police!
(white version)

It has been awhile since I have been able to post (blame it on work, school, or hot pockets) but I am coming back with ATTITUDE!

The great thing about this video is everyone's face. The little boy at first is medium curious and then completely bored. The mother looks like she is going to start crying at any minute, and the dad is having the best freakin time of his life. He gets so into it...this is impossible to watch only once. Once you pop...you just can't stop.

Enjoy

Also, for those of you who are not street wise thugs...here is the original version:

(it's the original version of the song but obviously just a video collage)

None More Black

silverunity:

For those who don't know, None More Black was fronted by the lead singer of Kid Dynamite (both bands which are now broken up). If you're a fan of the Melodic Punk, this is definitely a band that you need to check out.

MP3: None More Black - Drop The Pop
While I can't claim to know what the song is actually about, I know what it definitely means to me. It makes me think of big changes in life (cough cough graduation cough cough) and being scared shitless of it, but still trying to pretend to keep your cool, and failing miserably. With this being the last day of classes, I can definitely relate.

MP3: None More Black - You Suck! But Your Peanut Butter Is OK.
While the actual meaning of this song was explained by Jason from None More Black In An Interview. I definitely see where this song is coming from. Bigger than just one incident, it's a whole mockery of the whole punk "scene" (something I stopped caring about a few years ago). You goto shows, and sometimes it's just negativity, who's punker than who, who sold out, etc.

MP3: None More Black - We Dance On The Ruins Of This Stupid Stage
I know for the longest time, I wanted to be in a touring punk band. It seems like a pretty common thing, wanting to be in a band that makes it. The idea is glamorized, but there's a very tough reality to being in a band. None More Black definitely makes that clear in this song. I can't help but think about when I was in a little local band, and while it was a lot of fun, it was actually a lot of work and dedication to do, so I can't even imagine a touring band. This song also serves as a premise for None More Black breaking up, which happened not too long after they made this song.

Today's Theme: Hipsters and Stuff.

silverunity:picture taken from Natalie Dee

Wow, updates have been pretty scarce this week, as all of the housewives are incredibly busy, but don't worry, we're still alive. Anyways, today's songs all have to do with hipsters of some sort. So crack open a can of Pabst, stretch out that tight Threadless shirt and grab your IMacs, because this is an ode to all you guys and gals who somehow are just better than the rest of us.

Drinking And Driving

silverunity:

Who doesn't like to get wasted and go driving with only three tires intact? Details are scarce, but the president of my school got a DUI and was arrested for riding around intoxicated driving on only three tires. THREE tires. Apparently he got out of the hospital right before the DUI, so no one knows what he was under the influence of (not common sense however). Luckily he didn't hurt/kill anyone, and we can laugh and poke fun at the situation. So in light of driving around smashed on three wheels, here's a few songs for you.

Beastie Boys... as Punk Rockers

silverunity:

Everyone knows the Beastie Boys... They've been fighting for their right to party for quite some time now. However, did you know that before the whole rap thing, they were a punk band? That's right, those intergalactic planetary freaks started as a punk band, and never completely lost their roots either. Apparently at live shows, they sometimes will do an Agnostic Front cover or some other hardcore band song. Anyways, here's a song from their punk days. It's kind of funny hearing their faces with punk music. While I'm not a huge fan of the album, the song posted is actually really catchy (in an 80s hardcore type of way)

Oxymoron

A refined sounding street punk band? That actually is an Oxymoron! However, Oxymoron is about as classy as they come in street punk, and one of their songs are a housewives favorite, where we find ourselves randomly singing (even the non street punk fan housewives, which is everyone else besides me) "GET ON STRIKE!" God they're catchy as hell (God? Hell? is that an oxymoron?)
Although I must admit, first few times I heard the song, I swore they were saying "Ghettocide", and was convinced that a ghettocide was the ghettofication (is that even a word?) of a city... Apparently I'm wrong, but I still think "Ghettocide" would of been cooler. Anyways check out some tracks, especially "GET ON STRIKE!" Oh by the way, they're from Germany, but sing in English.

MP3: Oxymoron - Get On Strike (A Housewives favorite)

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip

Sasha:
I'm afraid I don't know too much about these guys, Scroobius Pip (the guy with the beard) is the one rapping and Dan Le Sac (the guy with the mutton chops) produces. They're from the UK. The songs are catchy and the lyrics are great also check out the video for Thou Shall Always Kill.

MP3: Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip- Thou Shalt Always Kill
The lyrics to this song are like a manifesto, an awesome manifesto. I can’t really pick my favorite line although “When I say ‘Hey’ thou shalt not say ‘Ho’” is up there. Also around minute 1:30 he starts a list of idols not to put on a pedestal, which is pretty great.

MP3: Dan Le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip- A Letter From God To Man
I went crazy trying to remember where the backing music for this one was from, it's Radiohead.

Here's a 20 minute video about the history of a six second drum sample called the “Amen Break.” The visuals aren’t scintillating but it's definitely worth watching.

Good Riddance Breaks Up

silverunity:

Wow. I was originally going to post about another band that broke up this year, but... I guess that will wait. Well here's another band to add to the list of bands I like that recently broke up (it actually happened 2 days ago but I didn't have a chance to post). I guess it isn't too much of a shock, these guys have been playing since 1986, and released their first album on Fat Wreck in 1995. Anyways, definitely check out this skate punk band, many bands were highly influenced by these guys.

The Harlem Shakes

Sasha:

I picked up The Harlem Shakes EP Burning Birthdays a few months ago, listened to it a few times, liked it, but forgot about it. After randomly finding it again and giving it another round of listens I like it even more. The album isn’t anything new, pretty much your standard fare indie-pop but the songs are catchy and fun.

Bouncing Souls - Apartment 5F

Wow, I don't even know where to begin with this song... Definitely in my top 3 favorite songs. God, I can't believe that this came out 4 years ago... I feel like it was yesterday. The second the feedback kicks in (which is immediately, actually), a huge grin always takes over my face, and I'm already rocking out, and we haven't even made it pass the one second mark yet. Hopeful. This song goes hand in hand with some night skating (something I haven't done in a loooong time). I was gonna write a paragraph about how the song makes me feel and all, but screw it, I've been inspired to go skate.

Who Needs Originality?

Sasha:

Not Ted Leo that’s for sure. Wait, that came out wrong. What I’m trying to say is that as much as I’m loving his new release Living With the Living, these cover songs are a nice distraction. Also, I thought since the last cover Housewives posted was so cringe-worthy you folks deserved something less likely to make you recoil in horror.

Celine Dion

Aquarian Beauty:

I bet you never thought to see Celine Dion up on the Midwestern Housewives. Frankly, me neither. There is really nothing to say to explain or introduce this amazingly awful cover. But if you think you can handle being scarred for life then you might as well watch it. I couldn't get past the air guitar part in the beginning as Celine hops onto the stage....see how far you can get! Make a game out of it! Scare your friends!

Enjoy!
